One of my design instructors once said that if you surround yourself with garbage you will only ever produce garbage.
Lights Out: Photographer Joe Capra spent 17 days in Iceland this past June taking advantage of the midnight sun to capture 38,000 stunning images across 2,900 miles. This short time-lapse film is the product of his journey.
He writes: “My advice to everyone out there, photographer or not, is simple… You MUST visit Iceland sometime during your lifetime. You will never regret it.”

Gonna wax philosophical for a second, so bear with me. Every once in a while I get these jolts of forced perspective that bring everything back to what’s important. Watching this video was an unexpected one that reminded me that, in the grand scheme of things, we’re all pretty insignificant. Our time here is short and, as much as it may pain us to think so, living on through the memories of others only lasts as long as the the people who remember you. What does last, what will last is what you see above.
So while I stop agonizing over shit I can’t control or things that don’t make sense in my head I’ll remember that whatever mistakes I’ve made, whatever foolishness I’ve done will really only be remembered by me. My time here is short and those mountains and the sky won’t remember what I do.
Live your life. Be good to others. Be grateful. Be humble. This is more of a reminder to myself than it is advice to you.
