A foreign message to all of you United States Americans. #occupywallstreet
I’ve never been to your country, though I wish I had. Nonetheless I’ve managed to learn quite a few things about your history from books, movies, over the internet and by meeting with quite a few of you visiting my country (Brazil).
I’m writing this to send a support message to you guys and to ratificate the importance of your cause. For you to understand this message I need first to clarify: bear in mind that both the economic and social strength of your country have been diminishing in the last decade, but you’re still the biggest economy in the world and the consequences of that, especially in your neighbourhood countries, is that many around the world will look up to you and your way of life, care they to admit it or not.
Throughout your history you have showed the rest of the world both beauty and horror, life and death, pride and prejudice, if I dare say. And the rest of the world absorbed it and incorporated part of it in their way of life. I have incorporated it in mine.
The love many of you have for your country, your freedom and your own spirits is something I wish to see in my own people one day. Though your oppression is not compared to the ones we saw earlier this year in Libya and Egypt, your fight holds a similar importance. You fight not only for your rights, but to prove that the world can and will be a equal place one day. Like the French once did in Europe, you can set the example in our America. We do not share the same mother tongue nor history, but I can assure that all of us, USA, Canada, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and many other countries, we are all craving for justice, for the end of corruption and to be free of the corporations laws that overcome our own.
You have army veterans willing to go and defend openly this cause, you have people from all social traits and backgrounds protesting side by side. That does not happen very often in the world. So I ask of you, don’t let them silence you, don’t give in to threats, cold, rain or even physical abuse if it comes to that. I wish I could be there rallying with you, but I can’t, but remember that you’re not alone in this fight, that it means so much more than you can imagine. Remember that the world is watching and waiting for you to prove that the corrupt governments can’t numb us out forever.
You have many hearts with you.
Best of luck to all of you in this endeavor.
Sincerely,
A fellow American
